Never mind, Mark Lamarr
Friday, November 24, 2006How good is Never Mind The Buzzcocks these days? Last night’s episode with John Barrowman and Daniel Be-ding-ding-ding-field was a masterpiece. Between bouts of coughing, we were all in stitches – even Davros, despite his disdain for all things poofy.
Hoorah Simon Amstell. I wish I’d shaken you by the hand that one time I bumped into you and Miquita in Wagamama…
Incidentally, I’ve been tinkering with Google blog search to find more reaction to last night’s NMTB:
- Naked Blog – “My God how Amstell has revitalised that show, so turgid under Mark (Brylcreem) Lamarr.”
- Rosie T – “How am I supposed to indulge my fantasies of whisking the skinny little indie thing away and englightening him to the benefits of the love of a good woman when he is so flagrant in his gayness? I ask you!”
In unrelated TV news: The IT crowd has been commissioned for an 8-episode second series, and the DVD of the first series has l33t subtitles. R0xx0r!!11
Yet more joyous TV news: Dark Season is available on DVD! Thankyou, BBC for inadvertently answering my prayers.

I’d like to second that notion. I didn’t think it was possible to find sarcasm to the level of Mark Lamarr but Amstell is impressive.

Good grief, I thought it would have been just me laughing like an idiot at Buzzcocks this week. It was truly fantastic.
Although, I still like Lamarr. And Amstell was stalking me in Popstarz for a while. It’s true, honest.

i love mark lamarr, i found simon amstell unbearable and extremely rude when he took over, but he has won me over in the end. But I’d be delighted if Lamarr came back.. However buzzcocks is unbearable when Bill Bailey isn’t on it. Don’t let him get away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say that Amstell is not a patch on Lamarr, I had some free tickets to see it filmed once, and Lamarr blew me away, If sometimes the televised show under him seemed boring its becuase they could not air half the stuff he came out with, he could be viscious but in quite a brilliant way.
He did a 45 min stand up as warm up to the show and it was fantastic too, I was seriously impressed, not realizing he could do that, I had only known him as a presenter.
Sadly Amstell just does not seem to cut it, I don’t think he is that funny and his sarcasm seems more shield than witty, you know that kid that has to be the funniest otherwize the older boys will beat him up, but always takes it a little too far, and can’t understand why people don’t like him. The show with Amy Winehouse on it was the worst, I don’t know what he was trying to do, at one moment he is playing it as concerned friend, and the next sticking in the knife, undoubtably she is a state, I am all for biting humour, but that kind of humour is only funny when aimed at people secure enough to handle it, she was’nt and he expoited her.
Now that Bill Bailey has gone as well, the show is pretty much doomed as him and Lamarr were the reason I watched it. Jupitus will hang on like grim death becuase lets face it, once the show ends so does his career.
