Moving on up…

The more grown-up member of our little Ealing cohort is about to move in with her other half to a love nest on the other side of the city. This means we’re looking for a housemate, and given that we’ve decided to advertise I need a bit of advice.

Which websites have people found good / bad / dodgy / surprising / reliable when searching for sane, interesting and agreeable people to move in with? I’ve always moved with friends so have no experience of the various random houseshare sites. Any advice gratefully received.

  1. If you are into media people or friends of media people NABS (www.nabs.org i think) run a flatshare email list which has always led me to nice people.

In any case I think you’re bound to get your share of weirdos via any means but moveflat.com is cool, as is gumtree sometimes.

  3. I’ve found uk.easyroommate.com the best at finding new rooms/housemates the best so far, although spareroom.co.uk is pretty good too.

Although you can send a message to a potential housemate to show your interest on easyroommate. You have to pay to get another persons contact details, which usually sorts the wheat from the chaff, as well as the weirdos.

On spareroom.co.uk the contact details are only for free a week after an ad was posted.

  5. eayroommate! Spending too much time on my own, makes it kindof funny. Ahem.

Well, I’m homeless at the moment (hint hint), but not sure if I’m entirely sane or agreeable.
