June 07, 2003 | Malta
When a wee family holiday to Malta was organised to celebrate my dad's 50th birthday, I'd planned to go exploring every day and take tons of pictures. In reality I slept for over half of the hours spent on the tiny, baked island - exhausted by a month of exams and temping (simultaneously). This is a pint of fosters.

I stayed in Comino ages ago :) Did you go to the ghost town Mdina at all? Unsurprisingly I have Maltese in my ethnic mix.
Oh, and do the cars go above 35mph yet? When I was a kid they didn't because, and I quote, "you might fall off the island".

Didn't manage to get to Mdina, no (due to general sleepingness), but the speed limit is still 35mph and the roads are still absolutely atrocious. If you need proof I still bear scars on my knees from the buses...

I managed a 9-days in May, curiosity (my dad lived there for a while as a kid) break in Malta, while I was at college in Farnham. Self-catering, just around the coast from Spinola, and all travel done slowly by bus. But we still managed to see lots, including the Popeye village, the blue caves, Mdina and the other island. I loved those little baked islands. Nice pix, Paul's mate!

Just come back from Gozo and Malta. Festival of St Paul last week. New use for the shredder paper - piled high in the street and used like confetti. The children used it like snow and were throwing piles at each other. Wonderful buildings, bathed in sunlight. A taste of summer to come.

Malta is awesome. I was fortunate enough to stay at my boyfriends house on Gozo, and his college apartment near Valleta. I highly recommend the Sunday Market near the capital walls. And the Azure window in Gozo after a storm. His father fixed up an old Mini for him, which is pictured in one of the photos I have linked. I would love to go back again (but mostly to see Darren) : )
